AzGOP Chairman’s Awards Dinner:Asian Americans Make Big Splash

(Scottsdale, Ariz.) In this presidential election year and understanding the importance of full engagement in American government, Asian Americans are making greater inroads in the American and Arizona political landscape. On January 22, 2016 Asian American community members were noticeably present at the Arizona Republican Party Chairman’s Awards Dinner at the Hilton Scottsdale Resort & Spa.
This annual event draws Party officers, leaders and workers from throughout Arizona to celebrate GOP accomplishments and recognize GOP hard working volunteers. Among the award recipients were: Dr. CT Wright, Senator Barry Goldwater Award; Carole Joyce, Lifetime Achievement Award, and Jae Chin, Korean Community leader and AzGOP Asian American Coalition board member, AzGOP Chairman’s Special Recognition.
The AzGOP Asian American Coalition and community leaders had a significant impact at the dinner with over 20% of the attendance (110 guests) and hosted tables (11 tables) at this 500 person gathering. Asian American-hosted tables were: Chinese Community (Hosts: Albert Lin, Helen Zhang); Taiwanese Community (Shen-Yi Michelle Chang); Bangladeshi Community (Farhana Ahmed, Raphael Ahmed); Filipino American Business Chamber of Commerce of Az (Marie Cunning); Indian Community (Venkat Kommineni); Indian Community (Jagadesan ”Jeggy” Krishnamurthy); Korean Community (Jae Chin); NewGen Worldwide, GreenCard Fund and AAHOA (Dinesh Dan Rama); Pakistani Community (Sardar Babar); Vietnamese Community (Kevin Dang, Mai Le); and AzGOP Asian American Coalition (Barry Wong).
Elected officials were present in support of the GOP including Congressmen Trent Franks, Matt Salmon and David Schweikert; former Congressman Barry Goldwater, Jr.; State Senator Adam Driggs and State Representative Jay Lawrence.
”The Republican Party espouses and stands for freedom, liberty, free enterprise, limited government and low taxes and regulations,” said AzGOP Chairman Robert Graham. ”We welcome and embrace peoples of all background and are proud of our growth from the Asian American communities in Arizona.”The Asian American community, comprised of unique and distinct communities, has coalesced and is working as a group collaboratively to engage in the political process for the benefit of their individual and the collective community.
